About the Series

Stories following the twelve Chinese zodiac animals as they prepare for and take part in a legendary race that determines their place in the zodiac calendar. From the clever rat’s early victory to the pig’s cheerful finish, learners experience everyday vocabulary, cultural symbols, and simple grammar while building reading confidence across HSK 1–4.

Format: Daily entries with integrated learning tools (pinyin, English translation, vocabulary tooltips, grammar notes, idioms, cultural points, exercises).

Story Description
Join the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig as they train, race, and reflect on their strengths and weaknesses. Each night focuses on one animal’s preparation and performance, showing how traits like speed, kindness, cleverness, or perseverance affect the outcome. The Rat sneaks a ride on the Ox, the Tiger runs fast but is out‑smarted, the Dragon flies above the course, and the Pig enjoys snacks and a nap before crossing the finish line. Through these tales, learners see repeated core vocabulary (numbers, days, actions, feelings) and encounter level‑appropriate new words that are recycled in later stories for long‑term retention.

What Makes This Series Special
Strictly Graded by HSK Level
Stories for HSK 1 use only the 150 most basic characters; HSK 2 adds 150 more; HSK 3 introduces 300 intermediate words; HSK 4 brings in 600 upper‑intermediate terms. No unexpected higher‑level (HSK5-6) vocabulary appears.

Natural Language
Sentences are kept short (10–20 characters for HSK 1–2, 20–30 for HSK 3–4) with clear subject‑verb‑object order. Grammar points such as 了, 过, 着, 比, 把, 被, 会, 可以, 虽然…但是, 一边…一边, 起来 appear in context and are explained with examples.

Daily Reinforcement
Key verbs (跑, 走, 飞, 跳, 吃, 睡) and adjectives (快,慢,高兴,聪明,强壮) repeat across stories, letting learners see them in different subjects and tenses.
Real Cultural Content
Each story includes notes on the animal’s symbolism in Chinese culture, the legend of the zodiac race, and related customs (e.g., Lunar New Year greetings, animal‑themed decorations, zodiac compatibility).

What Makes This Series Special

Strictly Controlled HSK 4 Vocabulary
Every story uses only HSK 1–3 words plus a fixed approved list of HSK 4 vocabulary. No unexpected advanced words appear. New words are limited to 15 per week across 7 stories and are recycled throughout the series for natural reinforcement.

Authentic Workplace Language
Stories include real office situations: group chat culture, performance reviews, business trips, client calls, overtime decisions, and team management. Readers build practical Chinese for real professional environments.

Natural Spoken Dialogue
Every story includes 1–2 short dialogue exchanges that reflect how people actually speak in Chinese offices, apartments, and daily life. Grammar is accurate but never stiff.

Daily Vocabulary Recycling
Core words (公司, 同事, 经理, 出差, 报告, 加班, 房租, 压力, 经验, 适应) appear in every week across both series. Learners encounter the same vocabulary in new contexts again and again, supporting long-term memory.

Real Cultural Content
Office food culture, apartment hunting, public transport, business dinners, company team-building trips, Chinese New Year traditions, and the emotional experience of living far from home — all woven naturally into every story.
