A Family of Three Orders Food

Wang Wei’s family of three goes to a Sichuan restaurant for dinner on the weekend. They sit at a large table with clean plates, bowls, chopsticks, and spoons. Waitress Auntie Chen comes over with the menu, smiling and asking what they would like to eat. Wang Wei looks at the menu and then starts to order.

Wang Wei says to Auntie Chen, “I want one Mapo Tofu, spicy.” His wife says, “I want one kung pao chicken, not too much chili.” Their child says happily, “I want sweet and sour pork, I like sweet food.” Auntie Chen writes down their order on paper with a pen.

Auntie Chen asks again, “Do you want anything else? How about rice and tea?” Wang Wei says, “Okay, please give us three bowls of rice and one cup of hot tea.” Auntie Chen repeats their order: “Mapo Tofu, kung pao chicken, sweet and sour pork, three bowls of rice, and one cup of hot tea.” Wang Wei says, “Yes, that’s right.”

Auntie Chen sends the order to the kitchen. Chef Li is using a knife to cut vegetables; he will use a wok to fry the chicken and roast the pork. He starts cooking very soon. Wang Wei’s family chats while they wait; their food is about to come.

After a while, Auntie Chen comes over carrying the dishes. She places the Mapo Tofu, kung pao chicken, and sweet and sour pork on the table. She also brings rice, tea, and several cups. The family is very happy and starts eating with chopsticks and spoons. The meal is very delicious, and they are all satisfied.
